Sciatica - My Journey to a Pain Free Life

One of the most common complaints from people who visit a chiropractor’s office is sciatica. They may not what sciatica is, but once it is explained to them all of the symptoms begin to make sense. The numbness and tingling down their leg, the pain in the buttocks, and the back pain all are interlinked by one thing and that is the sciatic nerve. This is how I learned that I had sciatica and it is also how I finally found someone who could really help and treat the cause, rather than just the symptoms.

Visiting the Chiropractor

Dr. Brian Abelson explains it this way, “The sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in the body. It goes from your lumbar region all the way down to the back of your knee and if there is any entrapment anywhere along the nerve, you will feel pain and/or numbness all along the nerve region.” This is why I was feeling tingling and sometimes even numbness down the side of my leg and even into my calf. My doctor showed me where the nerve was located and it matched up to the symptoms that I was having. I had finally found someone who knew what they were talking about.

The doctor explained that the nerves could be entrapped anywhere down the length of the sciatic nerve and it would cause pain all along the nerve. If the entrapment is not taken care of, it could lead to other conditions, including a weakened bladder, nerve damage, and/or deterioration of the calf muscle. This мейд me realize that my sciatica wasn’t just a nuisance as some doctors had мейд it seem, it was in fact a serious condition that I needed to treat. Finally, someone was taking my pain seriously and wanted to do something about it other than mask the symptoms with medication.

Getting My Body Adjusted

He manipulated my body in different directions until he could feel where the entrapment was located. He then adjusted that area and the rest of my body. Within two or three adjustments, I could feel a difference in the way my body felt and after I had been going for a few months, I could see that chiropractic adjustments were going to take care of my sciatica once and for all. I could finally quit worrying about when the pain would start and get back to my life.

Adjustments Plus Exercise Equals Positive Results

In addition to regular adjustments, I do stretching exercises, as well as strengthening exercises, to keep my body in good shape and get. This has caused several things to happen in my life that I never dreamed would happen. These things include:

  • I have lots of energy.
  • I feel better both physically and mentally.
  • For the first time in years, I was able to start an exercise program and continue it without having back pain.
  • I was able to lose a few pounds.
  • I am healthier than I have been in years.

Finally Found Relief

Sciatica is not something that has to hang over your head. It can be treated with more than just drugs or surgery to give you relief. A chiropractor will be able to adjust your body to enable it to work as it was designed to-without pain. There is no need for you to wait as I did to get help.
