Healthy Diet = Healthy IQ

According to researchers, children who were fed a healthy diet during the first two years of their life had higher IQs than children who were fed biscuits, chocolate, sweets, soft drinks and chips.

During the study, researchers compared the nutrition patterns of over 7000 children at the ages of 6 months, 15 months and 2 years

The researchers ”found that children who were breastfed at six months and had a healthy diet regularly including foods such as legumes, cheese, fruit and vegetables at 15 and 24 months, had an IQ up to two points higher by age eight. Those children who had a diet regularly involving biscuits, chocolate, sweets, soft drinks and chips in the first two years of life had IQs up to two points lower by age eight. They also found a negative impact on IQ from ready-prepared baby foods given at six months, but some positive associations when given at 24 months.”

And while 2 IQ points may not seem like much, this study goes to prove that what we feed our children has a direct effect on their development.

Garbage In : Garbage Out

Is that what we want for our kids?
