How Parents Can Find Time To Exercise

In today’s busy world parents are always on the go. Between our children’s sporting events, school activities, family events and just everyday life it is often hard for us to make time to worry about our own health and getting the we so desperately need.

The world we live in is high stress and high demand and we are living a more sedentary lifestyle than that of our parents. in the United States not only for us Adults but also for our children. It is vital that we, as parents, start setting a better example for our children by eating healthy and exercising regularly.

So you are thinking…. yeah, yeah, yeah.. but I just don’t have the time. Well, you do! You may have to stay up an extra 30 minutes to clean up the kitchen after the kids go to bed but it is worth it. Here are some tips I used to into everyday life.

Take advantage of sports practice

You know all those hours you spend waiting for your son or daughter to get done with practice? Use 30 minutes of that time to take a around the baseball field or volleyball court. Speaking from experience I guarantee other parents will join you.

Nap time is your time

Small children love motion and they love to sleep (not always when you want them to). Grab a stroller and instead of fighting that toddler to lay down for a nap every afternoon, strap them in and go for a brisk walk. In no time he / she will be sound asleep, you will have exercised and you will feel great.

Skip a show

Answer this question… How many hours of t.v. do you watch a week? I bet you can spare a little time by missing a couple of those shows and getting in a . I promise you will be glad you did.

Home Exercise

I have found one of the best motivating factors for me was to get a piece of I enjoyed using and was somewhere I would see it often. Seeing it would remind me and make me feel guilty for not finding the time. This can be anything. A home gym, or even something as simple as a exercise video you enjoy.

Challenge Your Kids

I have found that with any child, from about the age 9 on, they love to be challenged. They enjoy trying to beat mom or dad in anything. Use physical activity to challenge them. Even those teenagers, full of attitude, knowing you know nothing will enjoy this. After all, they don’t want to get beat by someone as dumb as you. Challenge them to a game of basketball, tennis, a mile run or who can swim 10 laps in the pool the fastest. It doesn’t matter what it is as long as you are moving.

Not So Dreaded Video Games

are making a major change since the introduction of the Nintendo Wii. Now XBOX and Playstation 3 have movement sensed video games. These games can be great enjoyment and exercise for the whole family. I am betting if you have a child over the age of 5 you have one of these systems. Get a game you all can play and get moving.

You can turn many everyday activities into exercise options. Get creative and find things your family will enjoy doing. Not only will you receive the health benefits of exercise but your family will grow closer and stronger.
