Vitamin Water - Everything You Need To Know

style="text-align: center;">

Vitamin Water has a very interesting origin…and it’s not the story most people believe.

You probably think that Coca Cola is the force behind the Vitamin Water phenomena. They are, in terms of marketing, but Vitamin Water had its humble beginning with a man named J. Darius Birkoff. In the 1990s, Birkoff was feeling a bit off so he developed a drink mixed with mineral water and vitamin C. Knowing that he had latched onto a winner, he created the company Glaceau Smartwater to sell his product.

After several years, Birkoff’s Smartwater was a success through all of New York. It was ahead in market share mostly due to people’s need for a healthy alternative to sodas. The giant, Coca Cola got a whiff of the Glaceau Smartwater company, мейд a hostile bid for it, and took control of the company to the tune of $4.1 billion, while maintaining Bikoff as the COO of the subsidiary. They re-named it Vitamin Water and there was no turning back. The brand has taken a share of the market in Europe, Australia, Mexico, and Canada as well.

What’s In Vitamin Water?

The key ingredient in Vitamin Water is vapor-distilled water. In addition, there is citric and ascorbic acid and fructose. A 20-oz bottle has 125 calories, 32.5 grams of carbohydrates, 32.5 grams of sugar, and numerous quantities of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, C, B6, B12, Niacin, and pantothenic acid. Even though Vitamin Water has more calories than plain water, the extra carbs could prove beneficial after a long-workout.

Which Vitamin Water is the Best?

is surly an argument that has been up for debate and will probably continue for as long as Vitamin Water is on the market. First, in most cases imitations are never as good as the real thing. However, Vitamin water is normally compared to  exercise drinks like Powerade Zero,  G2 Natural, Zero, Celsius, etc…

The obvious contenders like Smart Water, and those trying to move up in the ranks like Poland Springs fruit flavored waters, have not overtaken the market like Glaceau Vitamin Water, whose biggest competitor may be the all time favorite, Gatorade. There have been claims and studies concerning the sugar in Vitamin Water drinks. In spite of this, Vitamin Water is a good substitute for sodas since it has less sugar and includes vitamins as well. Of course, plain water is the best refreshing drink overall, but when someone looks for a replacement with a bit of taste Vitamin Water ranks pretty high.
