Social media for Seniors?

As a health advocate, I make most of my appearances in the virtual world, including writing for a great blog about regularly. I understand the power of technology and I know that there are a lot of readers out there hearing what I have to say. Knowing that social media is starting to become a part of getting the word out makes me quite happy. Although many boomers are a few months or years behind on the social media craze, they are getting into networking and finding it to be a very valuable resource.

Using sites like Twitter, Facebook, and others to spread the news about healthy aging and senior health issues offers everyone the chance to stay up to speed on what is going on without having to be a news buff. YouTube is even becoming popular for boomer resources, information, and education. The commitment by companies to help educate people on senior health and healthy aging issues is quite impressive, and it’s about time they got into the social media marketing world to reach out to more people.

I wrote a blog a while back for a senior safety blog that I feel is relevant here. A lot of people assume that age brings with it incompetence or incapability. The fact of the matter is that we’re old, but we’re not dead yet. In fact, many of us spend more time utilizing technology than our younger counterparts. It only makes sense that marketing through channels like social networking sites would help older adults. Take advantage of this opportunity because it’s a great way to stay informed and keep yourself at the top of your game when it comes to your health and wellbeing.

Are your parents/grandparents connected to health resources online or surfing the net visiting sites such as Facebook/Twitter?
